Our story began with a challenge: Every year more than 420,00 people die from foodborne illness each year. The United Nation’s Food & Agriculture Organization wanted to determine if technology could play a role in reducing that death rate. Specifically, the UN needed help so that their on ground food safety inspectors in Kolkata, India could assess thousands of street food vendors more efficiently and accurately.

During his tenure at Monash University, Melbourne, Monitus Co-Founder Dr Alexey Chernikov led a team to develop a powerful combination of Computer Vision and Visual Language AI that transformed how food safety inspectors analyzed and documented visual information as they went about their daily inspections.

What started as a solution for food safety has evolved into a versatile platform that helps organizations across industries turn video footage into detailed, accurate assessments. Our technology processes videos right on your smartphone, identifying and analyzing critical elements while ensuring your data stays secure and private.

In independent testing, our AI system exceeded human expert performance, while dramatically reducing assessment time and eliminating subjective bias. What used to take hours now takes minutes, and what once required extensive training can now be done by anyone with a smartphone.

Founded on research supported by leading institutions including Monash University and the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization, Monitus continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in automated visual assessment, while maintaining our commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and user privacy.

Our team

Dr. Alexey Chernikov

Chief Scientist

Dr. Chernikov leads Monitus’s scientific innovation, bringing over 10 years of expertise in computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. His groundbreaking work in visual AI technologies has transformed how the insurance industry approaches claim assessment and risk analysis.

As the architect of Monitus’s advanced AI-powered platform, Dr. Chernikov has spearheaded the combination of cutting-edge Visual Large Language Models (VLLMs) and Computer Vision systems. By integrating deep learning methodologies with real-world industry applications, he has helped shape Monitus into a leader in automated insurance assessment.

Before transitioning into AI and machine learning, Dr. Chernikov spent 12 years as an IT Project Manager in major multinational holdings, leading the implementation and customization of ERP systems across diverse industries, including food processing and shipbuilding. He later served as Head of IT for a leading holding company, overseeing large-scale digital transformation initiatives.

His expertise in AI extends beyond insurance, encompassing research that utilize satellite imagery for econometrics and emergency services (flood prediction), as well as applications in medical AI, including IVF. Additionally, he led AI development part in research on advanced natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLM) for in-depth analysis of reports of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and US Federal Reserve.

Dr. Chernikov's research-driven roles as a Data Scientist at Monash University and the University of Melbourne further solidified his contributions to AI, where he developed deep learning solutions and advanced artificial intelligence applications for the United Nations.

Holding a Ph.D. in Computer Science, specializing in computer vision and deep learning, along with a Master’s in Information Technology and a Bachelor’s in Engineering, Dr. Chernikov has made significant contributions to object detection, video analysis, and automated visual understanding systems.

Under his leadership, Monitus continues to push the boundaries of AI-driven insurance solutions, revolutionizing claims processing and risk evaluation with innovative, efficient, and intelligent automation.

Cameron Yuill

Chief Marketing Officer

Cameron has a diverse resume that includes 23 years in Silicon Valley as an entrepreneur, angel investor and venture capitalist. His career also includes executive leadership positions at Fortune 100 company Cendent (NYSE:CD), He began his career in Brisbane, Australia as a commercial attorney.

Cameron was Founder & Managing Partner at Propeller Venture Capital Management. Notable investments include Change.org and Spotify.

Prior to this, Cameron had a number of senior roles including VP Hotel Distribution and VP Partner Marketing at NYSE Fortune 100 company, Cendant (now trading as Wyndham Worldwide, Orbitz Worldwide, Travelport, Avis Budget and Realogy).

Among many start-ups Cameron was a founding team member at Viator (acquired by TripAdvisor $200M), co-founder Genbook (acquired by Booksy) and co-founder of Cheap Hotels (acquired by Future Development Fund), a Board Member of the first social media site for travelers, TripUp, (acquired by SideStep) and in 2008, he founded AdGent Digital, a global digital media and technology company.

Cameron is co-founder of Silicon Sunshine Music, a data and analytics company focused on finding and growing audiences for emerging DJ talent and producers. The label has produced and released multiple chart success including a recent #3 on the ARIA Club Chart and #9 on UK Dance Charts.

Cameron holds a Bachelor of Laws (Queensland University of Technology) and Masters of Business Administration (Queensland University of Technology, Visiting Scholar, McGill University, Montreal Canada).
